The European classification of Skills, Competences, Qualifications and Occupations (ESCO) is one concrete implementation of the digital labour market policies put in place by the European Commission at European level.

ESCO works as a dictionary, describing, identifying and classifying professional occupations, skills, and qualifications.

The ESCO skills pillar distinguishes between i) skill/competence concepts and ii) knowledge concepts by indicating the skill type.
